Youth leader who has made substantial contributions to improving the lives of women in low-income communities in India

Suhani Jalota has been identified as an excellent youth leader who has made substantial contributions to improving the lives of women in low-income communities in India. The stories of destitute women in Mumbai’s slums led her to launch the Myna Mahila Foundation in 2011, even though she was only 20 years old at the time. She has worked tirelessly in urban slums and rural communities, researching, and designing strategies for initiatives ranging from adolescent female health, water and sanitation to social protection programs. The foundation helps to break stigmas surrounding menstrual hygiene by providing women with affordable sanitary pads and accurate information at their doorstep, In India, over 1,200,000 sanitary pads were distributed to disadvantaged women, and over 500,000 people received assistance and support. Her commitment has inspired and served as a role model for others, has improved the lives of women in India, and is having an impact on worldwide society.
