Prof. Dr. Krasae Chanawongse
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister to the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand, Ramon Magsaysay Award Recipient
Prof. Dr. Krasae Chanawongse is a medical doctor, a professor of medicine and a politician who is renowned for his notable and long-term achievements in public services. Over the last 15 years, his tireless efforts have improved access to the public health service for rural communities in Thailand. For example, the rural mother and child health programme helped countless numbers of underprivileged people. He was awarded the prestige Ramon Magsaysay Award in community leadership in 1973. In politics, he served as the Minister of University Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Public Health. His commitment as a distinguished political figure has benefited Thai society in a variety of ways, in particular, the accessibility of public health care for rural communities highlighted earlier, and also the advancement of higher education in the country. He was the founder of the College of Asian Academics, Chairman of Naresuan University, founder of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, founder of Krirk University and the President of the Krirk University Leadership Institute. His commitment is significant in bringing about meaningful progress in Thailand.
