Dr. Vinton Gray Cerf
“Father of the Internet”
Vint Gray Cerf is widely recognised as the “Father of the Internet”, having co-created the TCP/IP protocols and Internet infrastructure. His work has transformed global commerce, communication, and entertainment. As a Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist at Google, he is well-known for making accurate predictions about the growth and impact of future technology on society. He served as a Commissioner for the Broadband Commission for Digital Development, which aims to increase access to broadband internet technologies. He is also a former National Science Board member and current member of the National Academy of Engineering, as well as a Foreign Member of the British Royal Society and the Swedish Royal Academy of Engineering. He is also a co-founder and chairman of People-Centered Internet, a Commissioner for the Broadband Commission for Digital Development, and a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His dedication has addressed the broad risks of digital obsolescence, long-term storage and reliable access to digital data. Overall, his work in designing and establishing the basic architecture of the Internet, as well as identifying new technologies and applications that aid in the advancement of digital technologies today, has had world-changing significance.
