Leymah Roberta Gbowee

A Liberian peace activist responsible for leading a women’s nonviolent peace movement

Leymah Gbowee is a Liberian peace activist, social worker and women’s rights advocate. She is the Founder and President of the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa, based in Monrovia. She is best known for leading a non-violent movement that brought together Christian and Muslim women to play a pivotal role in ending Liberia’s devastating, fourteen-year civil war in 2003. In addition, she has provided educational and leadership opportunities to girls, women and the youth in Liberia to create a culture of gender equality. She put a lot of efforts to empower women who are vulnerable in society to fight for human rights, peace, and security. Leymah Gbowee inspires young generations around the world to transform the lives of young women to discover sustainable peace and happiness.
