Session 3: Reforming Education, Learning, and Employment in the World of Flux

Education has been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Learning has moved away from classroom to become a more hybrid system between online and offline. This might create a ‘learning everywhere’ opportunity but in moving to online learning, students have, for two years now, sacrificed human interaction and practical teaching methods. If we have to face another pandemic in the future, more young people will also be affected. Would it not be better to make our education and learning methodology ready now, not later? This session will address the following questions:

  • How has online education and learning adopted during crisis affected our young generation? What are the expected consequences?
  • How should we adjust our education and learning systems to strengthen nation-building efforts given the world of flux?
  • What should we do with our new graduates who might be short of critical competencies due to the lack of sufficient training time in university during the crisis? How could we develop them to be able to compete and survive in the coming age where machines, AI and robots are prevalent?
  • What will be the future of employment patterns in the post-crisis era and what are their implications to nation-building endeavour?
