Session 2: The Development of Human-Centred Economies to advance Economic Prosperity and Sustainability
Since 1980, the number of people living in absolute poverty has decreased fourfold. Individuals are living longer and more comfortably than previous generations. However, within many countries, inequality is growing and, in certain cases, has reached record highs; incomes have stagnated for the middle class in advanced economies; recent surveys show a decline in trust in social institutions. From these phenomena, new growth models are proposed to seize opportunities presented by the new round of industrial revolution and digital economy and to strike a balance between efficiency and equity to ensure that different countries, and different groups of people, all share in the benefits of economic globalization and that humans are at the centre of the development process. Therefore, in this session, important questions that should be discussed are:
- What does human-centred development mean from business and economic aspects?
- Why is human-centred development important for economic prosperity and sustainability?
- What are the obstacles and challenges to be overcome so as to develop human-centred economies towards economic prosperity and sustainability?
- How should human-centred development strategies be designed to advance economic prosperity and sustainability in organizations and countries?
- What can the public, private and people sectors do to promote human-centred development for economic prosperity and sustainability?
