Session 4: The Development of Human-Centred Education Systems to enable Full Human Potential and Civility
Education systems in many countries face a variety of problems. A non-human centered education policy/system that focuses solely on achieving academic goals, rather than on the needs and interests of the individual student, can lead to a number of problems. These include low student engagement and motivation, limited development of important life skills, limited opportunities for self-expression and individuality, limited social and emotional learning, limited opportunities for civic engagement, lack of a sense of civility, empathy, respect, and tolerance for others and high dropout rates. These reasons and problems can impede the progress of students and limit the development of their full potential and civility. Therefore, in this session, important questions that are going to be discussed are:
- What does human-centred education really mean?
- Why is human-centred education important for the development of one’s full potential and civility?
- What are obstacles and challenges to be overcome in the development of human-centred education systems to allow students to reach their full human potential and civility?
- How should human-centred education strategies be designed to enable students to reach their full human potential and civility?
- What can the public, private and people sectors do to promote education for human development towards full potentiality and civility?
